A day in the life of a Beauty Trainer

Thought I would share a little sneaky peek into a Training Day I ran recently. I love training and this course topic was the Manicure & Pedicure procedure, and my student was called  Laura.

As you are aware, if you have scrolled down and read my past blog's that I am an Independent Beauty Trainer based in Northampton and I offer Certified courses to individuals, purely on a 1-1 basis.

A lot of thought and time goes into planning a Training Day, starting with the preparation of the Training room.
I try to ensure it is set out nicely, with room to manoeuvre comfortably, as there is normally myself (trainer) the student and a model.

Stage 1 of Training - The Room Layout

Manicure & Nail Area

Nail Desk
Pedicure Area to Soak Feet & Relax
Training Room & Area

 Stage 2 The Practical Session

Exfoliate and remove excess cuticles & push back
Exfoliate feet and legs

The photo's aren't necessarily in the order of the treatment plan, but just thought Id share this stage with you.

Stage 3 The Theory

This is when we work through the training manual. There is so much information its very difficult to break it down, without the blog being extra long. So I have listed the general topics that we work through.....

January Blues

Hello fellow bloggers, firstly allow me to apologise for not blogging for ....well.....yonks! I've been so busy, either performing beauty treatments on my lovely clients or running beauty training days. Last year saw some chapters of my life close, so the entrepreneur in me, had a word with myself and told me to pick myself up and get on with things. So after taking advice from myself, I am now happily busy with my work and getting busier week by week.

The aim of my blogg is still unclear to me and the same goes for the direction in which I would like to take it...... The one thing I am clear on it that I am writing a work based blog, so its all about 'the topic' and this is subject to change, a reflection of my working week, as there are never two weeks the same. So if anyone who is not a novice like myself, feels like they would like to offer me any tips, all will be appreciated and welcome.

I've titled this blog 'January Blues'

This isn't just Representative of the general feeling that people have during the cold January winter, but also how our hands and lips look a lot of the time. So as my clients come into my treatment room, the first few words that are exchanged are similar to...."isn't it cold today". My eyes being very adjusted in recognising body parts and how they could be better cared for, instantly look at lips..... are they blue? are they cracked, do they look sore???

Then once I have assimilated this information and decided on a course of beauty action, I browse down to my clients hands, which tend to be blue and red like their lips. With this in mind, once my clients are relaxed and snuggled under the beauty beds duvet ready for their treatment, I offer a 'complimentary' hand massage with the beautiful bergamont and mint Neals Yard Remedies hand lotion. Instantly my clients hands look nourished, feel softer, have more of a natural skin glow rather than a blue and red chapped look. This extra care will help sooth the skin and allow it to cope with the harsh weather.

Then during or towards the end of their treatment, I bathe my clients lips in Neals Yard Remedies lip balm, its so luxurious and helps to nourish the skin on the surface and locks in the lips moisture. Its like a barrier in many respects, as lips don't have sweat glands therefore they tend to always be quite dry. We forget our lips and hands, and they are 2 areas that people will always look at and very rarely covered up.

So take a moment when your standing at the bus stop, in January. Look down at your hands and see if they resemble what I've written today in this blog. Then sneak your mirror out of your make-up bag (hopefully it wont steam up immediatly) and check out your lips..... if you have lipstick on then you wont necessarily see the natural colour, but you may feel that your lips are rough. Now you know what to do, go on line and find a local Neals Yard Consultant near to you, book for her to visit you and buy yourself some of there amazing products. They are all affordable and are organic too, so packed full of essential oils and not full of synthetics and preservatives.

Hope you enjoyed todays thoughts 8)

Hollingdales Beauty Training Services
Specialist Private Training Service - Northampton

Dear Fellow Bloggers,

Welcome to Hollingdales Beauty Training Services.  I offer dedicated 1-1 Beauty Training in a private capacity. My commitment to my role is second to none and my main aim it to help develop up and coming Beauty Therapists to ensure they are confident and competent in their chosen profession.  I also offer refresher courses and guidance training for working therapists, who need a little extra support and tutoring in order for them to fulfil the highest work standards possible and also return to work therapists, who may have career breaks and need a little refreshing.

I run 1-1 private training courses, within my home based beauty training room, so the setting is relaxed and all trainees feel comfortable. It’s important to carry out training away from the trainee’s normal place of work; this prevents distractions and allows the trainee to experience training in a less pressured environment. Learning and development is so unique to each individual, so it is my aim to taylor my training style per trainee, taking into account their previous experience, competence levels and best learning style. I choose not to offer group training sessions, as this disperses my attention and can interrupt the individuals learning ability.

I understand and appreciate all that is required from a Beauty Therapist, from their personal grooming, salon standards, client care, health & safety, product sales and treatment ability, as I too am a working therapist with 18 years experience within the beauty industry and 6 years of Training experience.

My courses are independently certified by Hollingdales and one of the UK’s leading insurance companies,  Professional Beauty Direct, underwritten by Towergate Insurance, have guaranteed all students who pass my courses, will be eligible to purchase their Treatment Liability Insurance policy from Professional Beauty Direct.
